ASN Interview with Avatar Voice Director Andrea Romano (Part I)
Posted by Acastus on May 12, 2007 @ 1:02 am EST (link)
Following up UJoF's killer interview with Mike & Bryan, we have another treat for all Avatar fans, but perhaps most of all for those fans who aspire to be voice actors someday!
We recently had the honor of speaking with Andrea Romano, the Emmy Award winning Voice Director for Avatar: The Last Airbender, seen here at left in the special feature "Finding Their Voices" on the season one box set of "Teen Titans". We will be publishing this interview with her in three parts over the next few weeks.
The first part of the interview covers the role of a voice director for those who may not be familiar and a walk through of a typical voice recording session for Avatar. Part two will touch on Andrea's career, and part three will discuss advice for aspiring voice actors.
We hope you enjoy looking through this wonderful window with us into the career of a fascinating person and titan of the animation industry. She generously shared with us some of her views on voice direction and voice acting, two of the vital components of the magic that turns a collection of sounds and images into great stories and great animation!
We thank her for spending some time with ASN and for all of her work bringing these wonderful shows to life for us!
Season Two DVD Box Set Announced
Posted by Acastus on May 15, 2007 @ 9:17 am EST (link)
The release date for the season two box set of Avatar has been made public by tvshowsondvd.com. The new set will hit the streets on September 11th of this year, about a month after the Season Two, Vol. IV disk goes on sale, and will contain all twenty episodes of Book II: Earth on four disks.
The set will also contain a fifth, bonus disk, but the contents of this bonus disk have not yet been revealed. One ASN user did confirm through a call to Paramount that the features on the bonus will be close captioned.
The cover art visible on the left (click it to go the ASN DVD page and then click the thumbnail there for a full size shot of the cover), shows Aang in the Avatar state with the date dial from Wan Shi Tong's library behind him. He is flanked by Toph and a nice shipper shot of Sokka and Suki. Underneath, Zuko and Katara stand side by side, though separated by the drill, in fighting stances.
Now all that needs to be released is an airdate for the premiere of season three... we'll keep you posted on that. As soon as there's news to print, you'll see it here on ASN.

New Art From Avatar Storyboarder Michael Chang & ASN Timeline Updated
Posted by Acastus on May 23, 2007 @ 10:28 am EST (link)
Cool New Art: From time to time the Avatar staff who have DeviantArt accounts post something Avatar related for the fans to enjoy. In the past we've featured works from Giancarlo Volpe and Johane Matte. This time we bring you the Azula / blue spirit dragon piece seen in the thumbnail at the left from Avatar storyboard artist Michael Chang, who was also a director on Teen Titans before coming to storyboard on Avatar.
Click on the thumbnail to go to his DA page and see the picture full size, and be sure to check out his other art work that's there as well!
Site Updates: The ASN Timeline in the World of Avatar section has been updated through the end of season two, including information from the online comics and the ASN interview with Mike and Bryan.
Reconciling everything has been difficult, and we are aware of a few apparent contradictions, such as the exact length of Azulon's reign. In those cases we went with whatever was in the show as broadcast in the episodes so far. New and potentially clarifying information will no doubt arrive in season three, of course, and we will update the timeline to reflect new items as they appear.
The "Faces of Koh" page has also been updated to reflect the information revealed in the Kuruk online comic. The young woman's face has been retitled "Ummi's Face" and the history given by Kuruk entered.

In this part she answers questions about how voice actors are selected and gives some advice for anyone who would like to be a voice actor someday. We also slipped in a few fun questions about which character she'd like to play in Avatar and some of the interesting things she's done with her vast collection of Emmy Awards!
Spring 2007 Haiku Contest Winners Announced
Posted by Acastus on May 30, 2007 @ 8:49 am EST (link)
The Spring Haiku Contest has been over for a while and it is now time to announce the winners. Judging was hard, and it is worthwhile noting that, even though the contest was run during the long hiatus, we received hundreds of poems from people all over the world.
The winners and their winning entries are:
Platinum Dragon
"My mask floats away
deep down into the abyss,
along with my past"
Kohroxmysox
"A sunny spring day
Everything's calm and peaceful
Then Koh steals your face"
Both selected Fire Nation ASN shirts. We hope you enjoy them!
Thanks again to everyone who entered for making this contest even more successful than the first! We received almost twice as many entries than we received during our first contest, and we're glad so many people threw their hat into the ring.
Lastly, we will post some of the runner ups in the upcoming weeks. There were so many quality entries it was really hard to pick winners and we'd really like to spread the recognition for those who put so much energy and thought into their poems!
