With the entirety of Book One now available on DVD, the Book Two DVDs seem to be rolling in fast on their heels. According to Amazon.com, the first volume of Book Two, which like the DVDs before it carries some very handsome box art, will be available for purchase on January 23rd. Alas, it won’t be available for the holiday season.

No word on any special features the volume may contain, if any at all. Also no word on the release dates for the other volumes of Book Two but let’s hope they're released as swiftly as their predecessors have been.

In other news, there is sadly no new episode tonight in order to accommodate a marathon of Spongebob Squarepants. But make sure to tune in a week from today, November 17th, at the normal time (8 PM) for the premiere of episode 218 - The Earth King:

"The kids battle Long Feng and the Dai Li when they attempt to show the Earth King the vast conspiracy taking place in his city. Zuko becomes seriously ill and has feverish dreams as he faces a spiritual crisis."

No definitive news yet on when the last two episodes of the season will air.

We recently heard again from Andrew Brisman, the Editor of Nick Mag Presents, and he passed along a few items of interest. Apparently a new Spongebob poster magazine was supposed to hit the newstands a few days ago which contains a double sided Avatar poster. He sent along jpegs of the poster, one side of which is the cover art for the volume 5 DVD of season one, which you can see on the left and the right. Click on the thumbs for larger versions.

He also indicated that September's Avatar magazine is now available as promised through Diamond Comics. You can get the mag by filling out the Diamond preview order form Order Form and giving it to your local comics retailer, or just giving them the code info straight from the order form: "NOV06 3796 Avatar Magazine The Last Airbender (c:0-1-2) SRP: $3.99".

Lastly, he did mention that overseas fans can order the magazine directly from Nick Mag, but it will be expensive. Here's what he said:

"Our circulation department has told me that people can order the Avatar magazine directly from us. We can supply an address for orders. I was told that we would charge $10, but I'll double check that. If you think there's interest and you want to provide the address and ordering info on ASN, I can get the exact details by early next week."

If anyone wants the ordering information, please email me and I'll get it.

Thanks to everyone who contributed entries to ASN's first haiku contest! We received hundreds of poems from people all over the country and beyond. The winners are:

Best: Rachel Her for the poem, "Little Soldier Boy":

Under the tall tree
Is the little soldier boy
Who will not come home

Most Creative: Susan Kischel for this entry:

Chaos is found where
Cabbages fly through the air
Sell them if you dare!

Random: Isidorios for his entry:

Cunning lemur waits
Pear harvest brought to market
Stealth brings sweet reward

The prizes are either an ASN polo shirt in the color of their choice (red for Fire Nation, green for Earth Kingdom, blue for Water Tribes, or light yellow for Air Nomads), or a $20 Amazon certificate. Winners please PM me with your preference!

Congratulations once again to the winners!

Lastly, we will post some of the runner ups in the upcoming weeks. There were so many quality entries it was really hard to pick winners and we'd really like to spread the recognition for those who put so much energy and thought into their poems!

Nick Targets Illegal Episodes on YouTube, But Not FanVids

As most fans know, YouTube recently removed many Avatar fan videos for copyright violations after the company was purchased by Google. There has been a lot of speculation whether these videos were removed by Nick, its parent Viacom, or by Google / YouTube. Since a lot of fans were concerned about this, we tried to get some feedback on it. An anonymous source at Nick told us,

"We did remove the illegal episode broadcasts but the mashups are great. Everybody at Avatar loves them. I have also noticed that some of them have been removed. However it is not by us. Most likely it is the record companies pulling the content because of the music that is used.

Google is cracking down on a lot of this now that they have bought youtube.

We still encourage mashups and videos to the fullest."

That's the word, folks. It's great that Nick supports the creative efforts of the fanbase, but the music looks like it can be a problem. Best of luck to all the fanvid makers out there!
