Background: Than is a simple Earth Kingdom husband who, like hundreds of his fellow citizens, was turned refugee after the Fire Nation invaded the western part of the continent. Along with his then-pregnant wife, Ying, he began the trek to Ba-Sing-Se to begin a safer life there for his family. However, unfortunate circumstances forced him to take Ying through the Serpant's Pass to reach the city instead of taking a ferry across the lake. With the help of Aang and his friends, he and his wife made it through the pass safely. Soon after, Ying gave birth to his daughter, Hope, and the three entered Ba-Sing-Se to begin their new life.

Personality: Than is caring husband with a level head. He appears to try and keep an optimistic, sometimes even cheerful outlook on things, and is always there to comfort and offer words of hope to his wife when she becomes discouraged.
